The National Society of Home Inspectors (NSHI) is Renamed

NSHIAfter 15 years as the National Society of Home Inspectors (NSHI), in 2019 the NSHI Board of Directors officially adopted the North American Association of Home Inspectors, Inc. (NAAHI) as the non-profit organization's new name, in accordance with the provisions of the corporation law of the State of Delaware.

The Board of Directors decided a corporate name change was needed to better reflect the organization's more than 2,000 members, primarily from the United States and Canada. NAAHI has members in all U.S. states and Canadian provinces, and including the words "North American Association" better represents the organization's diverse membership from both countries.

Since 2003, NAAHI has been committed to achieving greater professionalism in the home inspection industry. NAAHI promotes high standards for those who engage in the home inspection profession each year and has seen its membership steadily grow. The association operates efficiently to keep its member dues low while offering the vital services needed.

NAAHI was formed in response to the need for higher standards for home inspectors entering the profession, especially in areas where the home inspection industry is not regulated. NAAHI restricts membership to applicants with home inspection experience or NAAHI-accredited home inspection training, who have met applicable state licensing requirements, and who have passed NAAHI's national certification test or an equivalent state or national exam.

NAAHI's requirement for experience or accredited education prior to applying for membership has led to a highly-qualified membership. NAAHI professional members become full members after performing or participating in at least 100 inspections.

As a non-profit organization, NAAHI provides an accreditation process for training schools who desire to have their course hours count towards NAAHI entry requirements. NAAHI's main purpose is to support the advancement of its members in the home inspection profession through educational opportunities and professional development.
