National Non-profit Home Inspector Associations
There are numerous home inspector associations that operate at the state level, some for-profit and some non-profit, but only a few non-profit home inspector organizations that operate nationally. These include:
The American Society of Home Inspections ASHI

For Pennsylvania home inspectors and consumers
NAAHI conforms with the Pennsylvania definition of a national home inspector association as (1) operated on a not-for-profit basis and not as a franchise; (2) has members in more than ten states; (3) requires 100 inspections to become a full member; (4) requires an accredited entrance examination; (5) requires that members comply with a code of conduct; and (6) requires continuing education for ongoing membership.
The Pennsylvania legislature does not certify or regulate compliance with PA Act 114. It is each inspector's responsibility to comply with the law and become a full member of a national non-profit home inspectors association. NAAHI provides full members with a compliance document to present to clients or Realtors to verify self-compliance with PA Act 114. * To become a NAAHI-accredited training provider, a home inspector training school must submit an application to NAAHI for approval. Applicants are required to have one visit to the training site; a review of the curriculum, enrollment and company structure, be authorized or licensed by its state post-secondary education governing body and not facing disciplinary action; be insured and bonded; have been in continuous operation for at least 10 years; be an accredited member of the Better Business Bureau with a satisfactory complaint history; and employ instructors who hold valid home inspector licenses in the state(s) where the training is conducted. Accreditation is renewed every 3 years. Note that the application processing fee, which includes travel expenses, background checks and administrative fees, is based upon the school's average annual enrollment and is not refundable.
